May 5, 2008
BEVERLY, Mass. - Three members of the Endicott College women's lacrosse were honored with The Commonwealth Coast Conference weekly awards as announced by Commissioner Greg Kaye on Monday. Junior Alex Pearce (Underhill, Vt.) took home Player of the Week, while goalkeeper Molly Hamel (North Yarmouth, Maine) was named Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman Kellie Cunningham (Derry, N.H.) was selected as the Rookie of the Week.
Pearce was instrumental in the Gulls capturing their third-straight TCCC Championship this week. She led the team in both goals (12) and overall points (14) during the three-game span. The junior attacker scored nine goals in the opening round of the tournament versus New England College, leading Endicott to a decisive 25-14 victory. She was extremely accurate with her shot during the tournament, putting 91% of them on net and scoring on 55%.
Goalkeeper Molly Hamel started all three tournament games for Endicott, collecting 20 saves and six groundballs. The junior held Roger Williams University to just six goals in the conference championship to preserve a 7-6 victory. For the week she was 3-0 with a 9.67 goals-against average.
Kellie Cunningham, the Gulls overall-points leader on the season, tied for the team lead in assists this week with four, including two in the championship game. The freshman scored a brilliant diving game-winning goal against rival Gordon College with just five seconds left in the game to propel Endicott into the conference championship.
The Gulls will take on Amherst College (13-3) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Wednesday in Amherst, Mass. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
