April 16, 2008
BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College women's lacrosse team remained undefeated in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference, as they defeated Western New England College by the score of 14-11 on Wednesday at Endicott Stadium in Beverly, Mass.
The Golden Bears took an early 2-1 lead in the first half before a goal by Endicott junior Samantha Morin (Kennebunk, Maine) tied the score at two, and sparked a 5-1 run by the Gulls. The Blue & Green received two goals from junior Alex Pearce (Underhill, Vt.) during the run to take a 6-3 lead.
After WNEC had closed the gap to 6-4, Endicott sophomore Valerie Feldman (Albany, N.Y.) scored three consecutive goals, including one to beat the horn as the final seconds of the half ticked off the clock. The Gulls out-shot the Golden Bears 25-12 during the period to build a 9-4 lead.
Endicott came out on the offensive attack once again in the second, as senior Emily Judd (Peabody, Mass.) scored just 24 seconds into the half. The Gulls would take an 11-4 lead when junior Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, Maine) found the back of the net at 13:02.
From that point on it was a different game, as WNEC began mounting a comeback. The Golden Bears would outscore the Gulls 7-3 the rest of the way getting three goals from junior Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, Mass.) and two a piece from senior Kaitlin Zangle (Wingdale, N.Y.) and freshman Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, N.Y.). It would prove to be too little, too late as Endicott went on to win by the score of 14-11.
The Gulls were led by Valerie Feldman who had a game-high five points on four goals and an assist. Emily Judd, Samantha Morin, Alex Pearce, and Sara Gunter all chipped in two goals a piece in the win.
With the win, Endicott remains undefeated and in first place in the TCCC at 7-0. The Golden Bears fall to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the conference. The Gulls will be back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Henniker, N.H. to take on New England College in a TCCC match-up. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
