BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott softball team fell to Tufts, 7-3, in Wednesday afternoon's non-conference bout from the Endicott Softball Complex.
WP (11-6): Sophia DiCocco (Bozrah, Conn.) — 4.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
LP (7-2): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 4 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
Facing a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the third, the Gulls were able to even the score after Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) sent a ball down the right field line that skidded past the right fielder and scored two runs.
Then, a batter later, Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.) strolled to the plate. She spanked a hard liner past the mound and into center field to score Saccoccio from third and give the Gulls a 3-2 lead.
Out of relief, Beebe shut down the Jumbos' bats for the first few innings, but they eventually awoke in the top of the fifth, with three runs coming across the plate to put them in front, 5-3.
They added two more in the top of the seventh, and the Blue and Green's offense was never able to recover in time, as they fell by a final score of 7-3.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Over the last two days, Beebe has tossed 10 innings with just 3 ER allowed (2.10 ERA).
- Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) picked up the first base hit of the day for the Gulls in the third inning, and then later came around to score the first run of the day on the Saccoccio play.
- Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) made the start for the Blue and Green.
- Rania Barton (Manchester, N.H.) made her third appearance of the season from out of the bullpen.
