Women's Soccer Comes Up Short At Wellesley, 1-0
WELLESLEY, Mass. — The Endicott women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Wellesley College on Wednesday evening.
Through the first half, the score stood deadlocked, despite a few good offensive chances for the Gulls. Gabrielle Klindtworth (Guilderland, N.Y.) got an early look in front of the net (seventh minute), but her low-stinging shot was scooped up by the Wellesley goalkeeper.
Endicott set up many more chances for itself throughout the half, but it was unable to convert to grab hold of a lead.
As the first half whistle sounded, the Gulls headed to the locker room with a 12-1 advantage in shots (6-0 on net) and 4-0 advantage on corner kicks.
In the second, the hosts took advantage of a 61st minute opening to grab hold of a 1-0 lead.
Later, Ella Morgan (Salem, Mass.) escaped for a fastbreak opportunity with just two minutes remaining in the contest, but the Blue's defense recovered and was able to prevent her shot attempt.
That fastbreak did set up a corner kick opportunity for the Gulls. They played a low, near-sided insert to the front post, but the Blue once again turned away the scoring opportunity.
The Gulls were unable to muster up another threatening scoring chance in the final minute of action, and Wellesley closed out its 1-0 home win.
Amanda Cosgrove (Newton, Mass.) made her third start of the season in net, but did not register a save in the contest. She was able to converge on the Blue's attackers on several occasions, thwarting potential would-be shot attempts.
