CCC SEMIFINALS: Endicott Falls to Gordon 3-1 to End CCC Tournament Run

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's soccer team fell to cross-town rival Gordon 3-1 on Wednesday evening in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament. Gordon, now 14-3-1 on the year, advances to the championship match on Saturday in which the Scots will take on the winner of No. 6 Roger Williams and No. 2 UNE. Endicott, now 11-4-2, sees its season come to a close.

Endicott got the scoring underway early in the first half when Lindsey Papa (Tolland, Conn.) scored her third of the season at the 7:11 mark to give Endicott the 1-0 advantage. Papa was able to run onto a long pass from Jaymie Caponigro (Swampscott, Conn.) and chip it over the Gordon keeper who had come out to challenge the shot. 

After Gordon tied the match at 1-1 in the 22nd minute, neither team could convert an offensive chance, keeping the score 1-1 after 45 minutes.

The second half saw the Scots notch two quick goals in the span of just under six and a half minutes at the 51:40 and 58:00 marks to grow the lead to 3-1. Despite seeing some chances develop, the Gulls couldn't strike again as the 3-1 final held until the final whistle. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• This is the first meeting decided by more than one goal since Endicott defeated Gordon 3-1 in 2018.
• The Gulls are now 24-10-4 all-time against the Scots as the two teams have split the last five meetings 2-2-1.
• Endicott has now advanced to the semifinals or beyond for the last six straight seasons.
• The graduating class of 2022 produced an overall record of 30-16-9 (.627) and a record of 18-5-2 (.760) against CCC competition over their four year career.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (11-4-2) sees its season come to a close. Gordon (14-3-1) now awaits the winner of No. 6 RWU and No. 2 UNE where they will compete on Saturday in the CCC championship.
