Tierney and Murphy pace Endicott to 17-5 win over Curry

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team won back-to-back Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) games to start their league schedule after defeating Curry 17-5 at Endicott Stadium four days after beating Gordon in the conference opener.  Gulls senior attacker Kelly Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) led her squad with seven points on two goals and five assists as Endicott improved to 4-3 (2-0 CCC). 

The Blue and Green continue their 2013 schedule tomorrow afternoon with a road game against the nation's 15^th ranked team Tufts in Medford starting at 4:30 pm.  Endicott is 0-6 all-time versus the Jumbos, who have been nationally ranked in each of the previous meetings.  Curry next plays at Emerson on Friday, March 29^th at 7:00 pm.

Curry (6-2, 0-1 CCC) saw their six-game win-streak snapped against Endicott despite a hat trick from leading goal-scorer, junior midfielder Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.), who raised her season total to 34 goals. 

Endicott's offensive outburst was also fueled by five goals and one assist from junior midfielder Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) as well as three goals and two assists from senior midfielder (Guilford, Conn.).  Endicott also got multiple Lauren Todd (Newfields, N.H.) and Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) who scored two apiece.  Mason added two assists and Todd, an assist. 

Defensively, the Gulls caused 12 turnovers including four by junior midfielder Rachel Campos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who also scooped five groundballs and hauled in five draw controls.  Stacia Geno (White River Junction, Vt.) added two caused turnovers while junior defender Kelsey Barnes (Mendham, N.J.) led the Blue and Green with six groundballs. 

In the cage, junior Rachel Socolow (Westford, Mass.) faced 11 shots, made six saves, and improved to 4-3 on the year. 

Curry saw freshman defender Alexis Cran (Branford, Conn.) caused three turnovers while goalie Chrisina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) made eight saves. 

The Colonels opened up the first half with a 2-0 lead as the visitors scored just 1:02 apart on goals by Carey, assisted by Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, Vt.), and senior attacker Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.).  Endicott gained momentum and scored 10 straight goals to take a 10-2 lead at halftime. 

After scoring the first goal of the second half at the 26:00 mark, Curry ended over a 30 minute drought on an unassisted tally by Carey to make it 11-3.  Endicott stretched their lead to its largest point at 17-3 before Curry ended the game with back-to-back goals by Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.), from Bottary, and Carey's third goal of the game.

Endicott had 23 groundballs to just 13 for Curry and held a slim 13-10 advantage on draw controls.  The Gulls went 4-of-13 on free position attempts and 12-of-17 on clear attempts.  Curry was 0-for-2 on free position shots and 13-of-20 on clear attempts.
