BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's club ice hockey team played back to back games this weekend against North Shore rival Salem State. Head Coach, Paul Munzing and the entire team were proud to honor this season's two seniors, co-captains Jesse Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) and Addie Weeks (Harwichport, Mass.) on Sunday. The Gulls were edged by Salem in both contests but they did not go down without a fight as both goaltenders, freshman MacKenzie Dutton (Andover, Mass.) and junior Gretchen St. Pierre (Colchester, Vt.) combined 82 saves on the weekend.
In game one on Saturday junior Samantha Parr (Dedham, Mass.) recorded her seventh goal on the season as she tallied the lone goal for the Blue and Green. On the play junior Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.) and Weeks both worked hard in the offensive zone to find Parr the puck as they were awarded the assists. On the defensive end St. Pierre was solid despite the six goals against as she posted 45 saves.
In game two on Sunday the Gulls were happy to celebrate senior day and Coach Munzing was happy to award the two young women for their four years of participation with the women's club ice hockey program.
In the contest Parr tallied her second goal of the weekend and her eighth of the season after again finishing the play started by Hurst and Weeks who have showed to be a great trio on the offensive end. Between the pipes Dutton played her first full game for the Gulls as she came up with an impressive 37 saves on the afternoon.
Despite the loss Coach Munzing was proud of his young Gulls squad saying, "Salem State showed why they are the class of the Independent Club Hockey league. They were a strong team with tremendous depth but our young team played hard and did not back down, I was pleased with their ruthlessness."
Next weekend the Gulls will travel to MIT and Westfield State to wrap up the regular season. At stake is a playoff berth. The Gulls can finish as high as 2nd place insuring a home berth in the first playoff round.
