AMHERST, Mass. – \#15 Endicott men’s lacrosse suffered a 15-7 defeat at the hands of \#7 Amherst on the road Wednesday night, dropping their 2012 season record to 1-3.
The Gulls will next take on the University of New England in their CCC schedule opener on March 19th at 7:00 pm at Endicott Stadium.
Endicott bolted out to a 3-0 lead in the first 6:14 of the first quarter after a goal by junior defender Kyle Burke (Haverhill, Mass.) just 41 seconds into the game from Jon Thanas (Cumberland, R.I.) and back-to-back tallies by freshman Kyle Weber (West Hartford, Conn.) at 10:27 and 8:46.
Weber’s first goal came off following a hard shot by Joshua Tordik (Natick, Mass.) bounced off the goalie’s chest, was scooped in mid air by Weber and finished to the back of the net. Tordik officially assisted on Weber’s second goal under two minutes later to put the Blue and Green ahead by three.
Amherst would regain momentum at the 5:59 mark of the opening quarter after a Danny Gold (Medfield, Mass.) unassisted goal to cut the lead to 3-1. Gold’s goal started a streak of seven unanswered marks by the Lord Jeffs to take a 7-3 lead going into halftime.
Over that stretch, both Amherst seniors Evan Redwood (Lutherville, Md.) and Cole Cherney (Chappaqua, N.Y.) scored twice with Alex Fox (Garden City, N.Y.) assisting on two separate goals.
In the third quarter, Endicott looked to shift momentum in their favor after senior Brendan Eppley (Darien, Conn.) scored unassisted at 11:21 to make it 7-4.
Amherst went on another run, netting four straight including two by Devin Acton (Sudbury, Mass.) to go up 11-4 with 3:10 to go in the third.
Endicott answered with two goals in-a-row, one by Tordik and Weber’s third of the game to pull Endicott to within five at 11-6. Captain Michael Armstrong (Winchester, Mass.) assisted on Weber’s goal.
Except for Connor McCormack’s (Norwalk, Conn.) goal with 3:53 remaining in the game, Amherst would score four of the last five goals to take the 15-7 win over the Gulls.
Endicott goalie Tom Burke (Sudbury, Mass.) made 12 saves in the game on 49 shots faced. His counterpart, Samuel Jakimo (Woodbury, N.Y.) finished with 13 saves on 32 shots faced.
Tordik and defender Breck Merritt (Weston, Mass.) each had two caused turnovers in the game.
