CCC Athletes of the Week – Week Ending February 1st, 2015
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior guard and captain John Henault (Lunenburg, Mass.) provided a consistent offensive presence for the Endicott men's basketball team last week and for his efforts Henault was named CCC Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
Led by Henault's 17.0 points per game average, Endicott (13-5, 9-2 CCC) went 2-0 against conference opponents University of New England and Gordon to remain one of the top three teams in the CCC standings. Henault scored his points courtesy of a 71% field-goal percentage, 60% (3-of-5) from behind the three-point line, and a perfect 11-of-11 at the free throw line.
Henault also averaged 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steals as he played 31.0 minutes per game as a starter.
After a nine-day layover following last week's winter storm, the Gulls secured a 72-50 home victory over UNE as Henault knocked down 5-of-6 shots, including a three, and all five free throw attempts while grabbing six rebounds and dishing an assist in the win. Two days later, Endicott exacted some revenge from an early December loss to Gordon by beating the Scots on their own court 68-61. Henault again led the offense with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting, 2-of-3 from three-point range, and 6-of-6 at the line. He also added three assists, two steals, and two rebounds.
In his final collegiate season, Henault is currently averaging 11.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.7 steals per game.
Endicott enters the month of February in a virtual tie for second place in the CCC with Eastern Nazarene. The Gulls play three times this week, twice at home against Salve Regina (Tuesday) and Eastern Nazarene (Thursday) before traveling to Roger Williams on Saturday. Tip-off with the Seahawks on Tuesday is 7:30 p.m.
