Gulls fly past Medgar Evers, 74-63

DANBURY, Conn. - Endicott College held Medgar Evers to just 29.7% shooting from the field (19-of-64) as the Gulls downed the Cougars, 74-63, on Saturday evening at the Western Connecticut State University Holiday Tournament. The Gulls will now face the host Colonials in the tournament championship on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Danbury, Conn.
Bobby Montrond (Brockton, Mass.), Graham Whitelaw (Kennebunk, Maine) and Ross Stewart (Palm Harbor, Fla.) scored 11 points apiece in the win. Erik Callo (Southington, Conn.) and Chris Galbraith (Lowell, Mass.) each added eight points to the balanced offensive attack for the Blue and Green.
Whitelaw, who was coming off a career-high 30 point effort against Colby on Tuesday evening, grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in the win over Medgar Evers. Montrond added four steals while sophomore center Justin Martin (Cromwell, Conn.) had four blocks for the Gulls.
Endicott led by as many as 18 in the second half, aided by a strong 33 points from the Gulls' bench. The Blue and Green knocked down eight three's in the win.
For Medgar Evers, Marcus Archer scored a tournament-high 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor. He canned 4-of-9 from beyond the arch while leading the Cougars on the defensive end with five steals.
Kallai Sharpe added 12 and Ronald Holloway had 11 in the loss. Ronald Bowan had 10 points and yanked down a game-high 12 rebounds for MEC.
Medgar Evers (0-5) will face Johnson State in the consolation game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. while WestConn will take on Endicott (3-2) in the championship at 3:00 p.m.
