Gulls End Season in NCAA 2nd Round with 5-0 Loss to #1 Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.- Having already recorded an NCAA DIII Tournament win for the third consecutive season, the women’s tennis team saw their 2014-15 season come to an end, bowing out to #1 Williams by a 5-0 final. The Gulls had advanced to the second round with a 5-0 win over Farmingdale State on Friday, a team that they also defeated in the 2013-14 NCAA DIII Tournament First Round. With the loss, Endicott’s final record on the year falls to 14-5 while Williams remains undefeated, improving to 21-0.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.- Having already recorded an NCAA DIII Tournament win for the third consecutive season, the women's tennis team saw their 2014-15 season come to an end, bowing out to #1 Williams by a 5-0 final. The Gulls had advanced to the second round with a 5-0 win over Farmingdale State on Friday, a team that they also defeated in the 2013-14 NCAA DIII Tournament First Round. With the loss, Endicott's final record on the year falls to 14-5 while Williams remains undefeated, improving to 21-0.

With doubles play leading off the day, Endicott would fall in all three contests. Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) would fall at #1 doubles by an 8-4 score to Maria Pylypiv (Weatogue, Conn.) and Julia Cancio (Concord, Mass.) in what would be the closest doubles contest of the day. Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) and Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) would fall at #2 doubles 8-1 to Linda Shin (Johns Creek, Ga.) and Juli Raventos (San Jose, Costa Rica) while Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) and Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) would fall by an 8-0 final in #3 doubles action to Rebecca Curran (Rumford, R.I.) and Maya Hart (Amherst, Mass.) to give the Ephs the 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

In singles action, the hosts would claim victories at #1 and #3 to wrap up the 5-0 win. Pylypiv would defeat Heacox 6-0, 6-0 at #1 while Shin took down Rhodes 6-0, 6-0 at #3 to advance in the NCAA DIII Tournament. In the four remaining singles contests that remain unfinished, the Gulls had dropped the first set and were locked up in tight second sets.

With the loss, Endicott's season comes to an end as the Gulls finish their 2014-15 campaign with a 14-5 record after advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA DIII Tournament for the third consecutive year, an Endicott women's tennis record. The NCAA appearance came after the Gulls claimed their fourth consecutive CCC title, defeating Nichols in all four championships. The Ephs, currently the top ranked team in the country, improve to 21-0 on the year and advance to the third round.
