Women's soccer cruises into the ECAC Championship
November 13, 2010
Keene, N.H. – Sarah E. Johnson's (Harrisville, R.I.) three points were more than enough as the Endicott women's soccer team took care of UMass Boston, 3-0, in the ECAC Division III New England Tournament semifinals. The Gulls (17-5-2) advance to Sunday's championship game against host Keene State.
Johnson opened the scoring in the 39th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead entering the break. The forward assisted on a goal in the 51st minute to double the lead before freshman reserve Heather Moody (Dunstable, Mass.) put the finishing touches on a dominant performance.
Senior forward Karyn Plante (Sanford, Maine) played a cross into the center of the box that Johnson tapped in for her second goal of the season.
Endicott allowed four shots on goal in the first half but kept the Beacons (11-3-6) off the board thanks in part to four saves by freshman goalkeeper Natalie Wyrsch (Dover, N.H.).
The Gulls increased the pressure in the second half and turned 12 shots (nine on goal) into a pair of scores for the victory.
Junior forward Colleen Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) contributed a second half goal at 50:06 to move her season total to a team-best 25.
At 82:30 sophomore reserve Micaela Hogan (Salisbury, Mass.) found Moody in the box, who connected to put the game out of reach. Moody leads all freshmen in scoring with seven points on two goals and three assists.
The Endicott defense limited UMass Boston to just one second half shot and finished the game with a 21-5 advantage.
The No.2-seeded Gulls take on the top-seeded Owls on Sunday (Nov. 14) at 1:00 pm for the championship.
