Gulls Fall to Wheaton in OT by Two

Beverly, MA-- In a back and forth battle, the Gulls lost to Wheaton College in overtime, 89-87. With 0.7 seconds remaining, and Endicott leading 78-75, Wheaton inbounded the ball to Mike Stanton who jumped to catch the ball, came down, then went up with a three point tying shot at the buzzer, sending the game into OT.
In the overtime Endicott trailed by 1 point 88-87 with 20 seconds to go. The Gulls were able to work the ball inside but were unable to capitalize on two shots at the basket. Wheaton's Eric Johnston made one of two free throws and Endicott missed a desperation shot from outside of the three point line as time expired.
Wheaton outscored the Gulls in the first half by two (32-30), while EC outscored WC by two in the second (48-46). The Lyons scored 11 points, to EC's nine in overtime, giving them the victory.
Wheaton was able to capitalize on 28 turnovers by the Gulls and record 15 steals. The Gulls forced Wheaton to turn the ball over 12, while stealing eight from the Lyons.
Zach Ellis led the Gulls with 32 points. Wheaton was unable to stop Ellis, as he went 12-15, 7-10 from behind the arc. Sophomore Nemanja Marinkovic led the team in rebounds with 14, finished second in points with 22. Samuel Evans was solid for the Gulls on defense, blocking six shots. Evans was 5-7 from the foul line.
Eric Johnston scored 24 points for the Lyons, going 9-13 and 6-8 from the foul line. Sean Kelly finished second in points for Wheaton with 19.
The next game for the Gulls is away on Tuesday against cross-town rival, Gordon College. Tip-off is 8PM.
