Gulls Drop First League Game of 2014-15 Season

HAMILTON, Mass. – The Endicott men's ice hockey team hosted league opponent Boston College over the weekend in ACHA action. Despite the key goals by senior Kevin Brennan (Scituate, Mass.) and junior Conor House-Myers (Goffstown, N.H.) the Gulls dropped their first Patriot East match up of the season. Endicott sits at 4-2-2 (2-1 NECHA) as they look ahead to Saturday, November 8^th where they host league opponent Northeastern at 7:30 p.m. at the Pingree School.

The first period was a battle as sophomore goaltender Nick Russo (Waltham, Mass.) was peppered by the Eagle offense as he was forced to make 16 stops. The Blue and Green however countered back forcing Matthew Lipsky (Irvington, N.J.) to make eight saves of his own.

The Gulls controlled the scoreboard in the first period as they tallied the first goal of the game just over five minutes into the period. Brennan and sophomore Tyler Peabody (Mendon, Mass.) made a combo play to goal where Brennan was able to eliminate the Eagle defense and beat Lipsky for the 1-0 lead.

Hungry for the comeback Boston College came out of the first intermission on fire as they tallied three second period goals and forcing Russo to make 29 saves. The first came from Keith Nicholson (Suffern, N.Y.) with an assist going to David Monahan (Bridgewater, N.J.) 11 minutes in. To wrap up the final two goals of the second, Monahan and John Marut (Maywood, Calif.) took advantage of power play opportunities giving the Eagles a 3-1 edge heading into the second intermission.

In the third, William Antonides (Freehold, N.J.) made it a 4-1 score 16 minutes in, however House-Myers answered back with the help of Brennan two minutes later. Despite the offensive push in the third period by the Gulls, the Eagles would tally one more goal to secure the 5-2 victory.

Russo walked away with 51 saves on the night while his counterpart Lipsky wrapped up the victory with 28 saves.
